On May the 5th we have the National Assembly for Wales elections and it is important that we raise the profile of Community Energy in Wales in the debates and discussions leading up to the election if we are going to influence policy when the next government of Wales is announced.
Firstly and most importantly of all we need to ensure that we take part and vote in these elections to ensure our voice is heard. A general guide to the election can be found here.
CEW in partnership with our members have produced a number of resources we hope will be useful in helping you to ask meaningful questions to potential candidates:
CEW Manifesto – Key priorities we feel are essential to the development of Community Energy in the long term.
Sustainable Wales films – a powerful series of films which highlight the opportunity and challenges for local energy and also highlight case study examples of Welsh Community Energy projects.
Community Energy questions (1) – We and Sustainable Wales have put a list of questions together that you can use as a guide to help you engage the candidates on these issues.
Letter to Candidates – CEW have put a draft letter together that you can send to your local candidates. We would urge you all to use this to help raise profile of community energy to your local candidates. Please feel free to adapt it for your own needs.
List of Candidates – Here is the list of candidates for all the areas in Wales. You will need to find out their contact details in some cases.
Summary of Welsh Party Manifesto’s – CEW have produced a summary of the main parties manifesto’s relevant to Community Energy in Wales.
In addition there will be local hustings taking place all across Wales. This is an opportunity for you to engage the candidates on their views on Community Energy. Below are some hustings we are aware of, please let us know of any you are organising and we will share this through our networks.
We will also be sharing news and information on stories that will be relevant to the upcoming elections. We will be using the twitter #senedd16 and it may be worth tagging @walesonline @bbcwales @ITV Wales @BBCcymru and other local media organsiations to try and raise the profile on Social Media when tweeting.
Good luck and let’s make Community and Renewable Energy a top priority for this election.
