Ben Ferguson

Co-executive Director

Ben Ferguson has over a decade of experience in community energy, serving as a founding member and director of Carmarthenshire’s Ynni Sir Gar project - delivering the county’s first ever community-owned wind turbine - and Community Energy in Pembrokeshire. With extensive technical knowledge of climate change, energy efficiency and renewable energy at all scales, Ben has worked with a range of stakeholders – from community groups through to statutory bodies, local businesses, and multi-national developers.

Leanne Wood

Co-executive Director

Leanne Wood was the leader of Plaid Cymru from 2012-2018, and the first woman to represent the Rhondda at the Senedd, where she held responsibility for the party’s Sustainability, Environment, Social Justice, and Housing policies. A committed climate and social justice activist of more than 25 years, Leanne is now contributing to the Independent Commission on the Constitutional Future of Wales, and hosts a podcast discussing Welsh politics, democracy, and equality.

Dyfan Lewis

Membership and Communications Officer

Dyfan Lewis joined the Community Energy Wales team in July, 2020 and is based in Cardiff where he moved to study Welsh at university. Prior to this role he’s background was in communications, translation and writing. Having worked for the Wales Millennium Centre and setting up his own publishing house Gwasg Pelydr. His interest in community development has grown since taking on this role and he’s especially interested in sharing stories from the grassroots of community energy projects.

Sioned Williams

Sioned

Research and Policy Officer

Sioned Williams became the Research and Policy officer for Community Energy Wales in January, 2022, and is based in North Wales. Sioned has a strong interest in environmental issues and climate change, initially explored through studying Physical Geography at Aberystwyth and developed further as part of an MSc in Sustainable Development and Climate Change, at Exeter University. Recently Sioned has completed a PhD in Sociology and Policy at Bangor University, working with partners in Welsh community renewable energy projects. Sioned has a particular interest in exploring the social impacts emerging from community renewable energy, sustainable development and energy policy.

Izzy McLeod

Operations and Development Officer

Izzy McLeod joined the Community Energy Wales team in July 2020, is based in Cardiff where they grew up and moved back to study their masters in Renewable Energy. They have a background in sustainable and ethical fashion, intersectional environmentalism, climate justice, and work as a climate communicator alongside this role. They see community energy as a way to tackle multiple climate justice issues together and look forward to helping to support and grow community energy in Wales.
