Awel Deg/Cardigan Fair Wind exists to develop, encourage and promote renewable energy projects so as to develop a robust, sustainable, local economy in Cardigan and the surrounding area.
Awel Deg/Cardigan Fair Wind aims to develop such projects in a way that is transparent and visible so that the social benefits to the local community of any projects are clear to all.
The main aims of Awel Deg/Cardigan Fair Wind are to:
1. Research the potential for and develop local sources of renewable energy, for example, but not exclusively wind, biomass, tidal, hydro etc.
2. Encourage and assist others to develop local sources of renewable energy. For example by working with local organisations (such as schools, colleges, social enterprises such as 4CG) to generate their own electricity and/or reduce their energy needs.
3. Promote the benefits of renewable energy to local landowners, businesses, local authorities and the wider community.
4. Alleviate fuel poverty locally and identify other social needs that can be met by developing appropriate renewable energy technology, or by increasing energy efficiency. For example, by installing solar thermal, insulation and draft proofing, the recharging of mobility vehicles using photovoltaic cells, etc.
